Faces

I love being home with Jax. I love seeing how quickly he learns, and knowing that I am here to see every single thing he does. I feel like there is not a single trace of baby in him anymore--he is all kid. His favorite movie is "Yee-haw" (Toy Story). He's not picky about if it is the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd movie, but he will definitely not settle for Nemo or Cars. It's gotta be Yee-Haw. I set him down on his chair and give him his little measuring cup full of my treat of choice (cheerios, goldfish or even peas sometimes!) and he'll sit there and munch til he is out, quickly ask for more, then go back to the movie. He will sit there the WHOLE movie. Not joking. One year old.
He still adores books. He knows which ones he likes, and he will pull out every book on the shelf until he finds the one he is looking for. His current favorite is "5 little monk
eys jumping on the bed."
He thinks he is hilarious. He is wild and silly and makes funny faces and
laughs at himself when no one else will. He'll look at himself in the mirror and smile, then look back, laugh, and continue making faces til I drag him away. A while back I tried taking some pictures of Jax and I to leave with JD while we were in UT. I couldn't get a single good picture. But then I had the brilliant idea of taking them while we were in front of the mirror. Much better. Here are some funny ones I got:
I love this kid. I wish he would stay like this forever (okay maybe minus the diapers!)

Well, here's to hoping tomorrow is restful.

There has been a lot of sick in this house for the past week. And it is hard to take care of sick people when you are sick yourself. My mom pointed out something really unfortunate to me... when you're a mom, you don't get to take any sick days. Boy is she right. I've been cleaning up yucky messes of the bodily kind multiple times a day for at least a week. And the days I've been sick and nauseated, I just can't bear to change another dirty diaper (about 10 a day for Jax-yeah! 10!), or another throw-up mess. It makes me want to vomit myself. I am finally over it, though, and now JD has what I had. Awesome. Jax has been sick the whole time. Sleeping and eating have both come to a minimum for him, which means the same for JD and I. I don't think I've eaten one hot meal uninterrupted by (gross) messes since last Sunday. So, I really hope that tomorrow is the cure-all day when JD and Jax will feel well again, and we will all get some much needed rest and relaxation (and maybe a hot meal and cookie, too)! {Hooray for free day}

Workin' Hard

The other day Jax wanted to work on his car.  By work I mean mostly pounded all the tools on the car regardless of their designated purpose.  But still cute.

Fixed!

Stuck

I just had to share this picture of Jax. He was on the couch the other day and decided he wanted to get down. But instead of sliding off, he decided to go over the arm-rest for his exit.  Then I hear this "STUCK!" (in Jax language).  I look over, and this is what I see.
You're right Jax. Stuck.

Olive You!

True Love

That's what JD and I have.  Must be.  If he can kiss me like this, you know its true love.

We went over to some the Palmers' on New Year's Eve.  Every year they have a tradition of eating 1 grape on each strike of the clock at midnight.  (Do the math: 12 strikes=12 grapes in 12 seconds) You have to eat them all by the 12th strike of midnight to have good health all year.  Can you eat 12 grapes in 12 seconds?  I thought I could, and I was wrong.  I got to the last 2 or 3 strikes and realized I had about 6 or 7 grapes left, so had to stick them in real quick.  That's where this picture comes in.  Good thing I'm totally shameless and JD still loves me anyway. Here's to a happy and healthy 2011!

Resolutions

What are your New Year Resolutions?
I try not to make resolutions, because I don't like to disappoint myself.  I am not very good at setting and accomplishing goals apparently.

2 years ago I made a goal to read the bible.  I said I'd do it in a year, but apparently I didn't know how big the Bible is.  It's BIG.  I didn't do it.  I started, but it is a LOT harder than BOM reading.  I gave up after awhile.  Since we've moved here to Philadelphia, I have started reading it again (everyday to Jax while he is in the bath, actually). It has been fun to see parts of my religion that I've never really explored personally before.  There are some very different and interesting stories in the bible that I've never heard.  And while I haven't read the whole bible, I am proud to say that I am in Joshua, which is further than I've ever read before in that book. I'll keep this up and maybe I'll finish in another few years.

I eat lots of fruits, veggies, and many whole grains each day.  I cook balanced meals and try to eat healthy-except for the chocolate.  I love chocolate. I eat it waaaay too much.  Seriously.  So to help me cut back on my sweets intake, I have jumped on board an 8-week challenge. I earn points for the parts of the challenge I complete each day.  Here are the elements of the challenge:
Drink 8 glasses of water a day
Eat 2 fruits and 2 veggies each day
No sugar/sweets
No junk food (chips, soda, etc.)
No eating after 8 pm.
Exercise 45 min a day
Write in journal every day
Read scriptures every day
Do a random act of kindness every day
Get at least 7 hours of sleep each night

So I've been doing it for a week, and it's going pretty good.  I went through some serious sugar withdrawals the first day, but it's much better, now.  My mom and sister are doing the challenge with me, so having their support is making it much easier.  I love that this is challenging me to do the things I know I should be doing but sometimes neglect.  (And I guess I can give up sugar for awhile, too! :)
